Moxibustion, also called moxa therapy or moxa ligands, is a concept from acupuncture. In case of moxibustion, heat energy is directed to a so-called acupoint, with the aim of eliminating a shortage of chi and promoting the chi flow.
Moxibustion is another of TCM’s traditional techniques.
The Moxa is made with the leaves of the Artemisia Capillaris plant or Artemisia Vulgaris powder. Moxibustion has a heat property and in MTC, all syndromes related to cold must be treated with Moxibustion.
There are different ways to use Moxibustion, the most common are direct Moxibustion, indirect Moxibustion and hot needle. The west is not usually used direct moxibustion for a matter of aesthetics, but the indirect, which can be applied in moxa cigars or with an intermediate isolate of garlic, ginger or salt. The hot Needle consists of an Acupuncture session with needles heated with a certain quantity of Artemisia on the needle.
Moxibustion stimulates the circulation of Qi and blood, enhances the effect of acupuncture and is highly recommended in all painful Bi syndromes related to cold. It is also used in many other pathologies.

Mugwort is used in the practice of traditional Chinese medicine in a pulverized and aged form called moxafrom which we derive the English word ‘moxy’.
Suppliers usually age the mugwort and grind it up to a fluff; practitioners burn the fluff or process it further into a cigar-shaped stick. They can use it indirectly, with acupuncture needles, or burn it on the patient’s skin.
